Meet Our Volunteer Family

The People Behind the Magic

The Old Chapel wouldn't exist without our incredible volunteer team. From the original committee members who helped save the building to the newest faces joining our community garden project, every volunteer brings something special to our story.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life and every age group. Some have been with us since our early pop-up days, others joined after we opened, and we're always welcoming new people who want to be part of something meaningful. Whether they're baking treats in their own kitchens, serving customers with a smile, tending our growing garden, or helping preserve local heritage, each volunteer helps make this place the warm, welcoming hub it is today.

Why Volunteer With Us

More Than Just Giving Back

Our volunteers consistently tell us that the best part of volunteering is the people they meet and the friendships they make. Whether you're new to the area or have lived here for years, volunteering is a brilliant way to connect with your community and develop new skills.

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and experience levels. Prior experience isn't necessary - you'll be joining a varied and dedicated team of people from the village and wider area. What matters most is enthusiasm and a willingness to be part of something special.
Volunteering with us means being part of a success story. You'll see directly how your time and effort contributes to preserving our historic building, supporting local suppliers, creating employment, and strengthening community connections. Every volunteer hour helps us fulfill our mission to serve Cotherstone and the wider area.

From young people completing Duke of Edinburgh Awards to experienced locals sharing their skills, everyone finds their place in our volunteer family. We particularly welcome volunteers who could help with heritage projects, digital support, or bringing new ideas to expand our community impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need experience to volunteer?
Not at all! We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and experience levels. What matters most is enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Our experienced team and friendly atmosphere make it easy to get started, and we'll provide any training you need.
How much time do I need to commit?
It's entirely flexible. Some volunteers come in several times a week, others help occasionally when they can. We have regular weekly roles and also welcome people who can help on an ad hoc basis when we're particularly busy.
What volunteer roles are available?
We need help with baking, café service, shop duties, garden maintenance, heritage projects, and general support. Whether you're interested in customer service, cooking, gardening, or behind-the-scenes work, there's likely a role that suits your interests and skills.
What support do volunteers receive?
You'll join a friendly, supportive team with regular catch-ups and good communication. Our WhatsApp groups keep everyone connected, and there's always someone around to help if you need guidance. We also celebrate our volunteers' contributions throughout the year.
Can young people volunteer?
Absolutely! We welcome young volunteers, including those completing Duke of Edinburgh Awards or other community service requirements. Young people bring fresh energy and ideas to our team, and it's a great way to gain experience whilst supporting your community.
Is there parking for volunteers?
Yes, parking is available at the back of the chapel - turn down the alleyway on the right-hand side of the building. We understand volunteers need convenient access, especially if you're bringing baked goods or other supplies.
What if I can only help occasionally?
That's perfectly fine! We value all contributions, whether regular or occasional. Being part of our ad hoc support team means we can call on you when we need extra hands, and you can help when it suits your schedule.
