A Hub for Community Connection

Where Friendships Begin and Interests Flourish

Community groups are at the heart of what makes The Old Chapel special. Our welcoming spaces provide the perfect environment for people to come together, whether they're sharing crafts, playing games, learning new skills, or simply enjoying each other's company.

We host everything from creative workshops and hobby clubs to social gatherings and educational sessions. Our flexible spaces can accommodate intimate craft circles, lively game sessions, quiet book clubs, or hands-on learning workshops. The comfortable atmosphere and easy access to refreshments make us an ideal home for both established groups and new initiatives.

If you're thinking about starting a new group or looking for a venue for your existing organisation, we'd love to hear from you. Whether it's a hobby club, learning group, social gathering, or community initiative, we're here to support activities that bring people together and enrich our community life.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I join a group?
Each group has its own way of welcoming new members. Check the individual group details above, or pop in and ask our staff who can put you in touch with the right people. Most groups are very welcoming to newcomers.
Can I start a new group at The Old Chapel?
Absolutely! We're always excited to support new community initiatives. Contact us at [email protected] to discuss your ideas, and we'll help you work out the practicalities of space, timing, and getting started.
Do I need to be local to join a group?
Not at all! While many of our groups have local members, we welcome people from across Teesdale and beyond. Community connections aren't limited by postcodes, and many lasting friendships have formed between people from different villages.
What if I'm nervous about joining a group?
That's completely understandable, and you're not alone in feeling that way. Most of our groups are very welcoming and understand that joining something new can feel daunting. You could start by popping in during a group session to have a quick chat, or ask our staff to introduce you.
Are there age restrictions for groups?
Each group sets its own membership criteria, but we have activities suitable for all ages. Our Friday Games Afternoon specifically welcomes everyone from 3 to 103, whilst other groups might focus on particular age ranges or interests.
How much do group activities cost?
Costs vary depending on the group and activity. Some groups ask for small contributions to cover materials or room hire, whilst others might be completely free. Check with individual groups for their specific arrangements.
Can groups use The Old Chapel outside normal opening hours?
We can discuss special arrangements for established groups with specific needs. Contact us to talk about your requirements and we'll see what we can work out together.
What facilities are available for groups?
Groups have access to our meeting spaces, tables, chairs, and tea and coffee facilities. The school room also includes table football and pool tables. We can discuss any additional equipment needs when you book.

Every Home Has a Story

Discover the History of Cotherstone – One House at a Time

We’re building a digital archive of Cotherstone’s homes, past and present – from who lived where to the stories hidden in the bricks. Inspired by projects like Meldreth History, our aim is to honour every corner of the village.

Got a story about your home? We’d love to hear it.
