The floor stripped and ready to be removed - it needs to be levelled (previously the pews were on raised sections) and insulated underneath.
Health and Safety briefing for volunteers
By taking the floorboards up in section and removing the joists from underneath, we have managed to reclaim many of the floorboards in good condition to re-use
The volunteer team hard at work
The existing floor was sitting on foundations of rocks and rubble. It lasted fine for 150 years, but modern building regulations require a bit more!
With the floor all up, we're ready to start digging to put foundations in for the new floor.
Job number 1 done! - Floor and rubble removed
Take your pick!
A tight squeeze, but we managed to get a mini-digger in to dig the foundations. Thanks to Steve the driver, and Ian Thompson builders for advice, loan of digger and expertise.
